Community Tasting Notes 2

February 21, 2023 - Knights of Alba (KOA) BYO Barbaresco Dinner (Legacy Records): Not a producer that I was familiar with at all so a new wine for me. More of the madeirized style of wine where there’s a bit of the alcohol and the fruit and a rounder body style to it. Acid more faded.

June 10, 2016 - A lost Friday afternoon gathering – Burgundy, Piedmont, Riesling, Champ and Sautenres (The Grill Room at Rosewood DC): The color, molasses/intense yellow brown, tells me that the wine is madeirized. Initially madeira and soy notes. With air, sweet very dry fruits, a hint of oxidative note, dry fig, caramel, soy and balsamico. Fully integrated, perhaps a bit advanced palate, mouth puckering acidity and medium finish with a hint of madeira as the end note. If you like the style of old school piedmont wine, ie a bit of oxidation, really dry fruit and soy, you will appreciate this a bit more than me. Not a big wine and I suspect a bit fragile at this stage unless kept in really cold cellar.
