July 16, 2023 - Red fruit, cherries, earthiness and leafy forest floor. Touch of iron and graphite. Nice depth.

February 19, 2021 - Another bottle that cements my dislike for pre-2K Mugniers, from too many of which I’ve experienced mediocre drinking pleasure. That is a big fail. One may knock Mugniers post-2K in general as being too full of berries and lightweight (a knock I dispute full-throat and will put up my Fuées and Musignys against any other big guns in a blind tasting) but never lacking drinking pleasure, and I open one always expecting tasty juice (setting aside flawed/ill-stored ones.) This 1998 was neither pleasurable nor thought provoking. Just hollow and tired. Came out of an impeccable cellar so I suspect no storage issues post the original purchase, though anecdotally there are whispers of subpar conditions at the domaine pre-2K. My experience certainly validates this chatter. Avoid.

    ps
Those who know me know I have a very large collection of Mugnier and the Domaine my personal favroite in Burgundy.

January 22, 2017 - Cellared since release. A very attractive wine with dark fruits, secondary aromas, complexity, smoothness, finesse, firmness of Fuées. Fully mature now, but should hold well for a while.

January 8, 2017 - Three Kings Day Celebration in Memory of Patrick Fegan (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Red cherry aromas and flavors. Elegant and understated, but with wonderfully persistent flavors perfectly supported by structure and enticing mineral textures. Wonderful right now.

March 4, 2016 - Red and black cherry, mid range sweetness. Light tannins and slight bitterness, as one might anticipate given the vintage. Nice but not particularly complex, and still somewhat weighty

(Mugnier J-F Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées) Medium-plus, cherry red with no fading. The nose bursts with red berries, raspberry and cherry set against a creamy background - lovely purity. The palate is intense and succulent, again showing mainly red fruit. The fine tannins show a dry edge. There is an oaky depth at first which makes the palate a little 'muddy', but this rights itself on aeration. Young but still fine.
