March 19, 2019 - Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #037: Bordeaux 2003, 2004 and 2006 (By me): Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, graphite and sweet spices. On the palate dark and red berries, cherries, good acidity and still firm tannin. The most purple and powerful wine of the flight with still a future of at least 5+ years. Pity it was my last bottle.

March 13, 2019 - The B-D drank beautifully, with an expressive bouquet of cherry, spice, dark berries and cedar. Beautiful tannins, plenty of acidic core and tons of fruit. This wine just keeps getting better — it is in full glory.

While I’m on the topic, I was at a tasting with some Bordeaux aficionados last week, and a few of them opined that the 2003 vintage is fading. That has not been my experience. Every 2003 I’ve had in the last two years has been integrated, full-bodied, well-balanced, and lots of fruit. The B-D is just the latest example of a great wine from an underrated vintage.

February 21, 2019 - Delicious Bordeaux in a lovely place right now. I actually can't quite reconcile my earlier notes relative to this bottle so not sure what was going on there. Lifted nose of cigar box and tea leaves, palate continues the cigar notes, ripe blackberries, olives, earth, graphite and leather. Powdery tannins are a highlight, has good depth and finishes clean and full. Feel this has improved a lot since my last experience and it has a really great life ahead.

February 9, 2019 - Color was deep red, getting a little pink on the rim. Aroma of black berries and ripe fruit. The taste was nicely acidic with dark berries and plums. Smooth silky tannins and black pepper in the finish. Decanted for 2 hours before first pour. Very lovely wine.

February 8, 2019 - 1 hour decant. Drinking quite well, albeit a bit ripe for my taste for long ageing. As with most of my 2003's, am testing or drinking them early.

    (lt Branaire-Ducru) Grab Bag

    Dear Friends,

I suppose this could have been a second Friday Special (it seems we've had two lately) or a "free for all" special but let's call it a grab bag of interesting wine, most at prices that are eye-opening indeed.

All are directly from the source with perfect provenance.

Have a good weekend everyone - new TN's out next week and an update on the website chat room (we're getting close).

(Chateau Branaire-Ducru St Julien) Not very expressive, but with sweet, blackcurranty fruit on the nose. Attractive palate. Restrained, elegant, with appealing texture. The acidity is a little low, and there is quite a show of tannins. Again this should show some improvement in the cellar.
