October 12, 2019 - Very perfumed - black fruits, flowers and liquorice on the nose. Palate of black fruits, liquorice, cedar. Full bodied, rich and dense. This was still tight and improved after some decanting. Velvety tannins. Ok to open now but I believe this is 2-3 years to its prime.

September 22, 2019 - Deep ruby color with no signs of lightening after 14 or so years in the bottle.

Pronounced and evolved aromas of black fruits , vanilla and spice. the aromas are evolved but not in any way faded or "jammy" as is sometimes found in this vintage.

The palate is the most impressive part of this wine. Full bodied with the tannins resolved and just enough acidity to keep things fresh.
Decanted the bottle prior to dinner and when polishing the wine off afterwards (say 1.5 hours) the palate was reminiscent of a Washington State or Napa Cab- obviously atypical for this cuvee.

Great example from this vintage. This will likely keep another 5 years +, but why wait....

August 7, 2019 - This is very similar to my note of 8 months ago, and the wine is showing great consistency, and it has a structure to stay at its best for a decade. It has an aromatic nose of cherry, plum and cedar, with hints of spice appearing in the last months. On the palate it is not necessarily typical of the vintage of the left bank with quite a robust tannic profile, and whilst not up there with the top St Julians and St Estephes from the year, it is still the best example of the estate drinking at the moment, and is easily out drinking the 2000. It has excellent balance on the palate and finish, if lacking a little depth. This does benefit from extended aeration, and this had 6 hours in an open decanter.

July 17, 2019 - Coravin. Deep ruby with minimal to no bricking; medium-high intensity nose, cedar, blackberry, eucalyptus, slight mineral freshness; palate is full bodied, still prominent medium-plus tannins, black fruit through the midpalate but fades prior to the finish, medium acidity; medium length finish. Not quite as strong as my bottle 2 years ago, but I'm not sure it has peaked either. Maybe needs more air. 90

(lt Branaire-Ducru) Grab Bag Dear Friends, I suppose this could have been a second Friday Special (it seems we've had two lately) or a "free for all" special but let's call it a grab bag of interesting wine, most at prices that are eye-opening indeed. All are directly from the source with perfect provenance. Have a good weekend everyone - new TN's out next week and an update on the website chat room (we're getting close). - Jon Rimmerman 2006 Anselmet "Muller Thurgau" (bianco) This is an insane price - usually line-priced with the Chardonnay. 2004/2006 Anselmet "Petit Rouge" STRICT LIMIT 3/person Think the Le Prisonnier is interesting? (Chateau Branaire-Ducru St Julien) Not very expressive, but with sweet, blackcurranty fruit on the nose. Attractive palate. Restrained, elegant, with appealing texture. The acidity is a little low, and there is quite a show of tannins. Again this should show some improvement in the cellar.
