August 22, 2022 - Seventh bottle from a full case purchased at auction in 2017. Opened 5:00pm, decanted 6:15pm, tasted 7:30pm. Not really convincing tonight, and I am not sure that this is moving in the right direction. Les Fuées (just south of Bonnes-Mares) is one of the very top Premiers Crus in Chambolle, and I am just not getting that quality and finesse here. It's a solid wine, but the nose is a bit dusty and muted, where it should be bursting with floral fragrance. The palate is borderline rustic - far removed from the cool and silky elegance this vineyard is capable of. The tannins are quite grainy and grippy, and the finish is really drying. At Euro 50 a bottle it was (very) cheap for a Fuées, but you can get far better quality for far less money. If this continues, I will downgrade it by one point (at least).

November 5, 2021 - A private dinner with friends (at home): Opened three hours in advance. Paired with Francois Buffet Volnay Carelle sous la Chapelle 2011. The stylistic difference is marked and very interesting. The Volnay is the lighter wine in every respect, traditional in style, delicately autumnal and slighty rustic, on the dry side but balanced, harmonious and flowing, with appetising acidity. The Chambolle on the other hand is a made in a much more modern style, has a deeper colour, quite ripe fruit and a dollop of sweet oak. At first glance this makes for attractive drinking, but the wine may have been pushed a bit too far, as the tannins are quite firm and tough and block the flow on the palate to the dry finish. Harmony and balance are lacking a bit.

June 8, 2021 - Decanted for one hour to soften the tannins, enjoyed over the next two hours. On the whole the nose is attractive, pretty even, fragrant and floral, with nice hints of tertiary complexity and a touch of marc; the palate however is not as shapely as I would expect from this vineyard, not as elegant and refined as a Fuées should be, it's soft and supple, on the easy side, with slightly caramelly oak; the finish is slightly drying, but length is good. Even if the result is speciously attractive, I would say that the vigneron has tried just a little bit too hard to bend the fruit to his will. If you take the price into consideration, it is hard to complain however. Drink now - 2026.

March 3, 2020 - Fragrant nose with oak spice, violets, citrus, and blackberries. Polished and forward without any greenness yet the fruit was a bit restrained, which could be due to underripeness. In more than one occassion, I enjoy Patrice Rion's wine quite a bit especially when you consider the price.

November 5, 2019 - Modern style, clearly 100% destemmed, ripe and even sweet fruit, spicy oak, undergrowth, fresh and minerally, flowing and silky, pleasantly grippy tannins, has line and length. Drinking well now, time in hand.
