September 8, 2018 - Subdued but very interesting nose:milk powder, hint of musk melon, crushed shells, clean cotton, nectarine skins. Beautiful acidity, touch of effervesence, soft texture, white peaches poached in a white pepper elderflower broth, chalky minerality and honeydew lasting through the finish. Would be 2 points higher if it didnt seem so soft, dilute, and timid through the moderate finish. Saved a bit by good peach pit bitterness. I would drink this happily over the next 3 years, particularly with my not too spicy chicken thigh chunks in green coconut curry. Like all fine gruners, she needs food to shine.

March 5, 2017 - During a walkabout tasting, so only brief impressions. Fragrant nose. This is fresh and grassy, almost like a NZ Sauv Blanc. Good minerality.

February 20, 2016 - Purchased off the wine list. Notes of citrus, mineral and pepper. There's plenty of fruit on the palate along with bright acidity. Lengthy finish. This should drink very nicely for a few years. Very enjoyable.

August 7, 2015 - Complex nose of pepper, terragon, pit fruits and pear. Taste was a little simpler, apple and cream...just a touch of herb. Enjoyed as a nice summer wine

December 17, 2014 - A quick peek after work revealed a massively reductive wine. Thus I decided to decant for 1h and then dump in the fridge for four hours or so. In a way a textbook nose full of white pepper and herbs, along with notes of apple, melon and smoke. Sadly, there is nothing particularly exciting about the nose, which is lacking a bit in terms of freshness and brightness, even though there is some clarity to its components. On the palate medium bodied with high acidity. It has good lift and energy, but is on the other hand quite angular. There is plenty of ripe apple fruit and some really highlighted white pepper action, but complex the flavor profile most definitely is not. Despite the moderate 12 % ABV I detect some heat towards the finish, and additionally that's where the wine gets a bit tea-like, which really is not my cup of...tea. Drinkability is decent, but overall this is a very unspectacular GV which is a major disappointed considering the producer's stature, albeit that it is an entry level wine. At this price point I'd go for Prager Hinter der Burg Federspiel every day all day.

Day2: After allowed almost 24h more time to develop and open the wine tastes now considerably (though it's still relative) more relaxed. The mouthfeel could be described now to possess a sense of airiness even, which is not to say that the wine is even close to being mellow, but it is definitely less edgy and more harmonious. Instead of the stereotypical flavors the taste is now more about lip-smacking minerality and the nose has added a honeyed quality which is really nice. Things definitely look a lot more positive now and it seems I opened this one way too early, though the fact that the wine is screwcapped really puzzles me. I have no problem with using Stelvin for wines that are meant to be enjoyed young, but for one that requires an hour in a decanter and over a day after that in the fridge to reach a point of being enjoyable? Some weird decision-making...
