Community Tasting Notes 5

July 30, 2014 - Quite deep and concentrated lime-green color. Powerful, fresh and expressive nose with aromas of ripe citrus fruits, gooseberries, some wet stones, a little pungent gunpowder smoke and a hint on grassy vegetality. Rich, full-bodied and characterful on the palate with weighty, almost oily mouthfeel and good, bright acidity. Ripe and rich flavors of remarkable intensity, bringing notes of stony minerality, citrus fruits, ripe gooseberries, some whitecurrants, a little honeydew melon and a hint of spice to the fore. There is also a rather noticeable streak of gritty bitterness underneath. The finish is long and powerful with intense flavors of gooseberries, sweet yellow apples, some citrus rind, a little bit of yellow damsons and a hint of honey. The high acidity makes the wine end on a bright, mouthwatering note.

A remarkably rich, powerful and concentrated Verdejo; a few notches above those refreshing but simple Rueda Verdejos the wine market is full of. This is all about structure and intensity. Due to its rather prominent bitterness, this wine is best served with rich food, but due to its structure and concentration I'd say there is no hurry whatsoever with this wine - leave it in a cellar for a few years at least. Impressive stuff, remarkable QPR at only 7,70€ for a 12 cl glass.

June 30, 2014 - This was dry, little interest, no length on the palate

June 19, 2014 - Super old, ungrafted vines. Unlike any other Verdejo I've had, with lemon, hay, and oxidative notes, coming across more like Anjou or Saumur blanc than a verdejo. Powerful, delicate, and ageworthy, though won't appeal to all. There's something like a dried orange rind about it, like you find in old Cognacs, as well.

January 17, 2014 - A selection of serious Spanish whites (at Martin's): Light color. Herbal and green nose, a bit creamy from the oak. Relatively full-bodied, fresh, good acidity. Some spices in the finish. Good lenght.

The style reminded me of Cloudy Bay.

June 23, 2013 - Light and refreshing but maybe lacking in spark
