July 13, 2022 - Classic Bin 28. 10 years old. Not halfway through its life but drinking really well!

May 14, 2022 - Blind tasting - Syrah, Northern Rhone, Australia and NZ (Newmarket, Auckland): It’s a well aged bin 28, typical south Australia Shiraz, dark colour, a little garnet rim. Dense, bold, ripe dark fruits, spices, warm alcohol, full body, medium grained tannins, a little rustic, m+ finish with chocolate notes. integrated better after 10 years ageing. Almost at peak, with more potentials ahead. Very good on density and weight, but less complexity than others in the flight.

October 15, 2021 - Den er da også god. Smager virkelig lækkert til mad, men er en anelse skuffet over den ikke udvikler sig mere til osten.

July 6, 2021 - Appearance: deep ruby with garnet rim.
Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of violet, dark cherry, dark plum, dried orange peel, licorice, chocolate, a little iron rustic / bloody notes. It's developing.
Palate: dry, high acidity, medium plus tannins, high alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus flavour intensity, more balanced and integrated flavours on the palate. The finish is medium plus.
Overall, it's a very good wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing.
Tasted this side by side with 2017 vintage. Similar fruit and licorice notes (more herbs / medicinal on the nose for 2012), but what comes on the palate is more harmonious and well balanced flavours for 2012 (vs dominant primary fruits of dark cherry and plum for 2017). Stylistically they are very similar, which makes sense as Penfolds pursue a consistent house style with multi-regional blends. It's interesting to see the development with 5 more years in the bottle, but I think 2012 vintage still appears to be very young and has a lot of years ahead.

June 27, 2021 - Decanted 2hrs then drank over next 2hrs. Best 3.5 hrs post decant .. but agree this is one dimensional lacking fruit and over tannic ..
