    October 5, 2023 - Brought by JH/CG.
Based on a poor vintage with just shy of 20 years under its belt, I was curious where this would fall (caveat I love CDLR and Dujac but am a fair grader loyalties aside) especially with stem inclusion- and wow it did not dissapoint and if anything exceeded expectations. Yes there are the expected vintage components but in the background not distracting rather in this case adding to the complexity. While the herbal and funk is there it is subdued, in the background and compounds nicely with an almost Aged Barolo balsamic (light but there) note along with the multi layer palate. As always a great mouthfeel with plenty of time left Vs hanging to drink them all today. Loved it.

Translucent garnet with very slight bricking at the edge.

A bit of ginger/allspice/cinnamon element, pinot funk, dark red fruits, cranberries, and a prominent herbal element on the nose.

Dark red fruit, cranberries, with a bit of tannic aftertaste.

For me, this wine was the paragon for the unpleasant "green meanies" in 2004 burgundy. The first bottles I tried were pretty uniformly bad.
It has transformed. Not great, the herbal element on the nose does not appear to be something that will ever fully dissipate, or fully harmonize. The palate is nowhere near what a Dujac Clos de La Roche should be. However, the wine has gone from undrinkable to "a pleasant dinner companion" [to quote the Burghound]. While I agree that Dujac Clos de La Roche should be far more than merely a "pleasant dinner companion," sunk costs will make you take what you can get.

June 22, 2020 - PnP. Initial nose is quite reserved but open up after 45 min in the glass with note of tea, Chinese spice and wood. Tannin is fully matured and integrated with some fruit, tea. Medium finishing. Best 2 hours after opening, and carry well for another hour. No sign of distasteful vegetal notes for typical 2004 vintage.

August 7, 2019 - Unfortunately Dujac did not manage to avoid the vegetal tone that is found in most 2004 reds (some of the best producers avoided that in 2004 by later harvest and rigorous sorting). Maturing red berries and dried herbs with mild green cabbage and green tannins. Still carries a Grand Cru shadow and complexity but not as enjoyable compared to the 2006 and 2005 served next to it. (89/100)
