April 21, 2023 - Subsequent notes on this wine from close to 9 years ago. Dark garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of matured, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, spices, herbs, coffee, smokey, leather, tobacco & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, matured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & mulberries with spices, herbs, minerals & a hint of vanilla/oak. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing. At 23 years of age, it is close to or at its peak of development. Although it may hold here for a few more years, I doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. Fill was in lower portion of the neck; cork was clean & intact. A wonderful Brunello with its aged aromas, flavors & smoothness.

April 27, 2017 - Very mature. Somewhat past its peak for me, but there is nobility in the flavors of leather and tobacco. There's a little bit of fruit left and moderate tannins.

January 11, 2016 - Might just be past peak or flawed but I was expecting much more. The finish disappeared and it just didn't have the punch of a typical Brunello

December 23, 2014 - As a disclaimer- I drink very little brunello- this wine makes me think I should change that. Dark red. Cassis, blackberry, currant and Indian spices on the nose. Big and rich on the palate . The tannins are well integrated tannins. There is excellent acidity (clearly trumpeting its origin). In the mouth, the dark red fruits, spice and sweet cassis felt almost kaleidoscopic. This was a wine that held my interest like few wines I have drunk recently and it is in such a sweet spot.

October 26, 2014 - Deep dark garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges. Forward, attractive and fragrant nose of ripe dark fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with earthy overtones, some floral notes, spices, dried herbs, cocoa, aged tobacco & cedar in the background. Full bodied with a good concentration of balanced, smooth & supple textured, complex, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & mulberries with savory spices, earthy, herbs and a hint of toasty oak. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but has the structure & fruit to develop further with additional aging.

(PIAN CORNELLO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO) #3; COLOR-dark; NOSE-candy cane aspect; beautiful integration of black currant & blackberries; little bit of black pepper; TASTE-very focused; really like the overall mouthfeel; really clean fruit; silky flavors, little hints of pepper; nice rush of red & black fruit coming together; very well-made & polished; quite complex; really nice long finish; WS-91; GV-91+
