June 10, 2019 - Gave it about 2 hours open but it was rather harsh and awkward on night one; the oak, alcohol, tannins, acidity - all too apparent. Re-corked 2/3 of the bottle overnight and it turned around to find excellent balance. Seamless, Merlot-driven bouquet and the tannins are still a bit firm throughout the whole palate, but this should only resolve from here on out. A long finish reveals more Cabernet notes but this is probably just at the beginning of its prime window. I did not expect to like it as much and on night one, I thought I was right. Turns out, I actually think it’s well worth the tariff. 5+12+18+8= 93

November 22, 2018 - Decanted 4 hours, but probably didn't need it. The wine was starting to fade toward the end of the bottle. Good black fruit, softer structure than expected, but still quite enjoyable. Drinking through the last of my 2011's as they don't seem to be holding up as well as other WA vintages of the same wines (for my palate). Drink now - 2021.

November 11, 2018 - Not my favorite, lots of vanilla oak that permeated this bottle, and a lack of depth to the fruit that left the mid-palate hollow. A single, so not sure if this was representative or not.

October 21, 2018 - Decanted 2 hours. Drinking very nice. Quite savory, with umami, grilled beef, scorched earth and oak...the black cherry fruit is almost a secondary flavor here. Finish is long and redolent of black cherries and baking chocolate. Hints of coffee grounds as well. Outstanding for the vintage...I've not been impressed with many 2011s at this stage. Most are falling apart. This wine shows what a skilled winemaker can do with quality fruit in a poor (in my opinion) vintage. I have another bottle and will wait to pop it until 2021. 10 years in should be very interesting! Drink now - 2026+.

October 20, 2018 - Been drinking up my WA wines because our palates have shifted towards old world. I wish I had held on to this bottles for at least 5 more years. At 13.6% alcohol, this bottle was beautiful from opening, but absolutely singing after 3-4 hours in decanter. Medium+ body (light by Rasa standard lol), still a bit of tannin in there, I think 5-8 years to resolve. Great acidity! The juice shows that signature DrBrul character.

Vacuum-and-fridged remaining bottle over night. The wine is still showing well next morning. Merlot becomes dominant, showing bright, seductive red fruit.

This wine made me want to buy more Rasa BDX blends.
