  December 26, 2023 - A remarkable 375-ml bottle, resplendent in golden hues, exuding vibrancy. Its aromas hinted at candied apple, ripe pear, and delicate florals. Impressively youthful, boasting excellent acidity and a lingering finish, this wine proved versatile, complementing a variety of dishes or standing elegantly on its own. It undoubtedly earned the title of WOTN.

  November 1, 2018 - Pale lemon core. Crude oil (a mix of sulfur and diesel), honey and fresh apple on the nose. Medium-sweet, light-bodied, with very slight petillance and bracing acidity. A lovely and enticing cocktail of apple, sweet grape, with a hint of raspberry. Long length, with the acidity promptly washing away any trace of sugar. I forgot how thoroughly enjoyable a young Auslese can be. This will age gracefully, but it's very difficult to argue with anyone who might want to pop one open now.

  August 22, 2018 - Been a long time since I tasted a young Auslese. Very enjoyable with white flowers, lychee, white nectarine and lime peel. Much more to come.

  June 22, 2015 - Hmm. This one is a puzzle. Maybe the brashly sunny, fruity wines of the Sonnenuhr are more of my style, but I've had more than a few wines from the Himmelreich that just seem steely, gray, and cold to me. Impeccably made, this wine seems like a structured mathematical thesis. Impressive beyond my grasp, but cold and impersonal. I try this every year, and occasionally it grows on me (2005 was a great Graach year for Prum) but I seem to keep drawing the same conclusion.
