Community Tasting Notes 4

July 23, 2023 - The 1945 Leoville Poyferre is a truly impressive wine, sporting a vigorous nose, replete with ripe blackberry, nori, ink, black pepper, and chestnut. This has got so much presence, yet for all the impact, the '45 Leoville Poyferre shows a really plush, enveloping character on the nose. The contrast on the palate is a bit of a shock - there's still so much tannin! Then again, should that be surprising? This is 1945, after all.

As an aside, it's funny to taste this on the heels of the 2022 en primeur season, where Leoville Poyferre has made a wine that is quite stylistically similar to the 1945.

March 18, 2013 - Night of the titans (Onda Mezzanine, Oslo): Dyp rød med lys kant. Fruktig og animalsk nese med friskt og klassiskt preg. Noe røyk. Slank og forholdsvis transparent frukt med et lett sursøtt preg. Frisk syre. Ungdommelig. Tørrende tanniner i finish.

March 18, 2013 - Anti Bag in Box Dinner: From a very good cellar and in neck fill. Insanely youthful looking. Wonderful deep, concentrated and clean fruit, some flinty characters. Very long, fresh, but drying a little bit in the finish.

December 1, 2008 - This sported a brickish color. Spice, soy, Kirsch, earth and truffle made for a powerful perfume. In the mouth, the wine was less exciting and with air, declined in the glass. Still, for the first 30 minutes, it was a nice ride.
