February 26, 2022 - I’ve been a big Gamba fan for years and fortunate to have a nice selection of vintages in my cellar. More convinced than ever that bottle age is an enormous friend to Gamba. This ‘12 is simply delicious. The ripest juicy blackberries, dark chocolate covered cherries, integrated tannins. What a great bottle. I’m vowing to hold some of my Gamba to open at 12-14 years and see what delights await.

March 28, 2017 - I scored this a 94 in 9/16. Starting to lose some interest in Zins (and big, oaky Chards for that matter)...probably just a phase!
Give this 1-3 hours of air and it is smooth (EBERT must have had an off bottle). Not too jammy but just the right amount of dark fruit...time has pulled it back from the "cough syrup abyss" I mentioned in September.
Can't go wrong with Gamba. -

September 24, 2016 - I scored the 2011 version of this a 91 and really liked it, but this 2012 version, at four years of age, is stellar!
It looks into the abyss of "cough syrup", then pulls back to be just a super jammy, exotic melange of dark fruit sweetness!
Give this two hours of air and drink today. I don't believe waiting will gain you anything.
(Side note: I drank the 2011 at 3 and 5 years of age and found it to be much more enjoyable at 3. At 5 it had lost its' youthful brightness and appeal. Now, at 4 years for the 2012, I'm thinking 4 years is the sweet spot for Gamba Zin...at least for the Family Ranches version)
