July 11, 2021 - Oxidised but just about drinkable. But what was the point - should have been drunk ages ago.

  • premiercru1973 Does not like this wine: flawed

February 16, 2019 - Hugely dissapointed. Nice on the nose but totally off and unbalanced in the mouth. Very dry and no sweetness at all. No aromatic correspondance with the nose. Weird and unfocused even for Marcel Deiss, and I generally like weird wines. The cork was immaculate, though...
Edit: Upon reviews from other tasters familiar with this wine, I must conclude that my bottle was flawed.

February 4, 2019 - Simply sensational - with the score boosted by sheer relief that this wine hadn't fallen victim yet again to another appallingly-crumbling cork...

Once the cork had been filtered out, this was beautifully rich and honeyed with plenty of balancing acidity. Absolutely lovely to drink as an aperitif and after dinner. Mrs H adored this.

October 17, 2018 - This was a very pleasant surprise. Despite a crumbling cork (which has been a hallmark of my batch of 1997s from Deiss), it was still in good condition and alive. Gentle pear fruit, mid-weight and not particularly complex. Most of these have been duds, so my rating might have been buoyed by the sense of relief that lifted my spirits.

Won't improve, so drink up asap.

January 13, 2018 - Dinner with Beaucastel (Chez moi): Coffee, toast, minerals, a deep canned fruit; hors classe, layers upon layers. Cork is terrible as usual with Deiss (never fails with the older bottles), but the wine … oh dear. Will keep, no effort.
