December 30, 2021 - Dinner at Zhejiang Heen 浙江軒 (浙江軒 Zhe Jiang Heen, Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong): Drank over dinner at Zhe Jiang Heen alongside a Charles Vienot Corton 1982. Both were superb and evenly matched. The 1990 had a beautiful perfumed nose of warm strawberries on straw and damp woodland underbrush.More fruit on the palate than the 1982 and a lovely reverberance and resonance 'inside the head' on the long finish. Lots of life still ahead and will undoubtedly improve for many years, particularly in this "Collection Privee de la Famille Drouhin, Sortie de cave en Juin 2014" format.

June 28, 2019 - 20th Wedding Anniversary Weekend; 6/28/2019-6/29/2019 (St. Regis Hotel, Wan Chai, Hong Kong): Opened for an hour to breathe but not decanted. Dusky velvet red translucent/transparent. Nose is strawberry and dew-soaked dawn woodland, so light and with only the merest hint of compote fruit. Palate is absolutely gorgeous lightness, purity, secondary elements but still total freshness and a massive light but powerful reverberance and resonance inside the head on the finale. So smooth and sophisticated.....fabulous with slow-cooked duck and surprisingly powerful enough to then compliment a plate of strong French artisanal cheeses.Wow.....the best showing yet from a case purchased on late release from the Drouhin family cellars in 2014. 95+.

March 31, 2017 - My Birthday Dinner (Seasons By Olivier E., 3/F, Two Lee Gardens, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong): From a case "Collection Privee de la Famille Drouhin, Sortie de cave en Juin 2014". Opened for a couple of hours but not decanted. Light, transparent raspberry-red colour. Nose is mesmerising clean shit from a cow-yard, bright and almost tart wild woodland strawberries, autumnal vine smoke....all very light and chiffonesque like the film 'A Walk in the Clouds'. Palate is, er, ......just absolutely gorgeous: sharp, bright, young wild strawberries and the damp loam beneath them. A firm tannic frame keeps everything in check and allows the wine to cope with the liquorice and morel richness of the dish it was served with. WOW, with time the nose unfurls to match the damp sous bois element of the palate and really billows. The finish is light but with a powerfully chiffonesque reverberance that is not easily forgotten...all grace and understated power.

November 18, 2016 - Bangers & Mash Dinner.....and Burgundy. (Our House, Hong Kong): "Collection Privee de la Famille Drouhin, Sortie de cave en Juin 2014". Opened for a couple of hours but not decanted. Semi-transparent dark lambs-blood colour. Nose is just perfectly pebble-rounded woodland bracken and wild woodland strawberries that develops a slight pepper on the nose (and palate) with extended time in the glass. Palate is more of the same but with greater depth and dimension. Picture-perfect wild woodland strawberry, super sandalwood and spice-box - so sophisticated. Rounded and very whole. It has a subtle but very long-lived finish.

October 17, 2014 - White Truffle Lunch (Otto e Mezzo, Alexandra House, Central, Hong Kong): "Collection Privee de la Famille Drouhin, Sortie de cave en Juin 2014". Briefly opened before serving. Totally transparent, bright and fresh in colour but the shade of dusky autumn strawberries. Nose is high-toned and incredibly refined in comparison to the earthy rusticity of the 1996 Dujac.........violets, sharp wild woodland strawberries, precision, lightness. Palate is light, almost watery but with a great tannic backbone: high-toned, sharp, lean 'essence of strawberry' - like a Spanish water-based perfume. Incredibly light but resonant and reverberant in the head. Endless length. Power without weight. A great counterpoint to the equally thrilling Dujac 1996 drank alongside it. Personally, I preferred this more but the jury was completely split. I may be biased because I brought it.
