    December 9, 2023 - Very Good++
    Not sure this will fully hit a sweet spot, even if it is a very nice wine. Comes out with a cherry cough syrup thing and tight, but that shows more as dark cherry as it gets air. However, too much air (second night) makes it too heavy, slightly baked. This was good with food, but would have been best with a grilled seasoned steak.

    November 12, 2023 - Prepared by bottle breathing for 3 hours. Tar notes on the nose, and nicely textured mouthfeel with increasing weight and density too. Acidity medium, with such a young palate. However some signs of aged discolouration on the appearance.

    Is this a 20 year old Barbaresco? Nope turns out it is actually half the age!

    A lovely feminine expression of Nebbiolo, I enjoyed the layers and undertones. Such complexity with red fruits, rose petals and tea coming through as well. The acidity is so well balanced and tannins gradually rounding off as well.

    I read about Roberto’s Rabajà who recalls the damp and then hot vintage of 2012. “Front row”, west-facing, deep, grey, marne-clay soils were perfect.

    Lots of juicy flesh on those heavy bones, ensured Rabajà’s well covered for the years to come as it ages in bottle.

    One of the oldest, and finest, Barbaresco estates, Cascina Luisin is located close to the village itself, overlooking its prime vineyard of Rabajà. Roberto is gradually filling the shoes of his father, Luigi Minuto.

    There has been a renovation of the large oak botti, with Austrian Stockinger oak, along with a new family reserves cellar for all those magnificent old bottles.

    Thanks to Yoong, always great to catch up with the oracle of Italian wines in Malaysia, Kaki Vino!

    June 21, 2023 - 2012 Barolo / Barbaresco (Terra Rossa N1): This has a clear precise nose of roses and cherry syrup. On the palate has good weight and some spice comes in. Has some Barbaresco elegance but not tonnes of interest - not a "meditation" wine but good with food.

    June 21, 2023 - 2012 Barolo/Barbaresco (Terra Rossa): Very aromatic, almost volatile, with notes of almond and shoe polish as well as dark red fruit. The dark fruit carried over to the palate, which also showed a surprising amount of oak, the overall effect reminding me of drinking a Manhattan. At first I found this flavour profile quite exciting and addictive but I quickly found the wine fatiguing, despite it tasting good - the hot weather not helping perhaps? Still some soft tannins, but these were not obtrusive.

    May 11, 2022 - The Italian pick-up (Terra Rossa, Islington): I think this came directly after the Brunello and was a lot easier - definitely a more silken wine that had shaken off the early angularity of nebbiolo to leave quite a svelte wine with red and black fruit. Everyone liked this, but we had had quite a lot by then!
