Community Tasting Notes 4

July 25, 2023 - Burg/Bordeaux Dinner with BYO Gang (The Kongsee): Deep garnet. Very developed nose of mostly earth and mushrooms, and some dried grass and green stems. Tannins still giving a little bite, but the flavours on the palate only showed the pepper, greens, earth, dehydrated moss, and mushrooms. Challenging vintage no doubt, but a little unpleasantly surprised that a good example of St-Emilion in the 90s could turn out so overdeveloped. Not too sure it it's the provenance of that magnum bottle, but otherwise seems that it's time to tread carefully on wines of the challenging early 90s vintages

April 19, 2013 - Dark red, fading to orange at the rim - slight cassis on the fairly weak nose. Medium to light bodied, pretty much just secondary flavours on the palate, a trifle dusty and also quite acidic - best drunk about half an hour after decanting - it begins to fade after a couple of hours. However, not as bad as I feared it might be.

October 14, 2006 - An excellent wine. Creamy, spicy, tea. The taste is ripe and soft with pleasant ripe acidity, a lot of juice and fairly complex. The aftertaste, which is quite long, has tannins which are a bit harsh and drying out. At first this wine presents itself as young for its age, but I don’t think it should be stored much longer.

October 21, 2004 - Occasional tasting group; Blind tasting (@ My place): Luxurious bouquet with smoky oak and dark as well as red berries. Same on the palate, juicy acidity and good bitterness. A beautiful and complex wine which is ready now, but can easily last another 5+ years.
