October 14, 2021 - Another Sotheby’s/ex-Wm. Koch cellar: glad I got in the habit of ALWAYS cleaning the shmutz off the top of the cork in case it ends up inside the bottle! Cork looked a bit dry after the hairy mold cleaned off. Never anticipated it would get sucked into the bottle after barely touching it with a corkscrew/ah-so. The wine seemed unaffected and not oxidized. Fairly large, tough wine still, much like previous bottles.
2nd day: this really opened up to be a MUCH better wine on the next day. Softer, fruit much more rich than when first opened. I had poured remaining wine into a half bottle filled to brim, no argon, no refrigeration. 93+

April 7, 2019 - slight mold on a crumbling cork. Takes 2 hours to open...at open very disjointed tart acids and tannins....doesn't seem 40+ years old at all. melds in the bottle with air and really is nice. subtle raspberries, cherries, and violets. really amazing for the age of this sucker.

May 11, 2018 - Not as good as last week's bottle, this one was more herbal, mossy. Still powerful with a tremendous viscous richness of dark cherry fruit on the palate; still ample acidity helping to carry a long finish.

May 7, 2018 - Plenty of aging dark cherry still, deep aromas that seem a bit closed in and a bit out of focus for me. Very supple, rich dark cherry coulis flavors in the mouth that show top-notch quality. Perhaps other bottles would show more aromatic delineation to take me to that next level.

May 4, 2018 - Another go at this wine: (Wm. Koch ex-cellar again) Very rich yet savory; deep fruit, celery salt, barnyard hay. Well-knit and elegant; huge finish. Tried that first bottle too soon after arrival of the case last fall. Now showing MUCH better.
