October 15, 2021 - Sourced from a 35-yo plot. All fruit destemmed. Aged for a year in oak barrels (50% new). 13% alcohol.

Moderately translucent ruby red color with a somewhat evolved plummy red hue. Relatively evolved and quite noticeably meaty nose with aromas of game, wizened cherries, some floral notes of violets, a little bit of savory wood spice, light earthy tones, a hint of meat stew and a touch of dried dark fruits. The wine feels silky, moderately full-bodied and somewhat evolved on the palate - although less so than in the nose. There are flavors of ripe black raspberries and wizened black cherries, some meaty umami, a little bit of balsamic richness, light figgy tones, a hint of stony minerality and a touch of savory wood spice. The overall impression is quite sturdy and structured, thanks to the high acidity and surprisingly firm, moderately grippy medium-plus tannins. The finish is long, rather grippy and slightly evolved with layered flavors of ripe black raspberries and fresh red cherries, some wizened red plums, light stony mineral notes, a little bit of meaty umami, a hint of balsamic richness and a touch of savory wood spice.

This wine turned out to be a bit more evolved than what I expected, but nevertheless a pleasant, tasty and enjoyably structure-driven effort. Although the wine sees quite a bit of new oak, the overall impression is anything but woody and the bold, somewhat dark-toned fruit has integrated the oak tones quite well, leaving only quite understated, savory wood nuances behind. Although the wine does show some evolution, I'd argue there's still quite a bit of room left for further improvement; the wine is probably going to peak in another 10 years or so and keep for a good while longer. Priced according to its quality at 33,10€.
