May 1, 2022 - Slightly browning robe. Some heat on the nose. High alcohol at 15pct. Dried prunes and dried apricots on the palate that with the high alcohol have a bit of a liquor character. Not quite in balance, still overtaken by strong tannin on the mid palate and into the finish. The fruit has definitely transitioned to secondary stages but the tannins need more time to subside. I suspect the fruit may disappear before the tannins. Very stark contrast to the 2011 Sugarille, which we had one week ago and was an absolute delight.

December 16, 2016 - Had a bottle of this spectacular wine with our anniversary dinner at Vue 1913 in the Grove Park Inn. Deep red in color, not particularly aromatic with just a hint of cedar. Full bodied and velvety smooth on the tongue. I was surprised at the soft tannins in this wine, as I have had other Brunellos older than this with absolutely gripping tannins. I had it decanted, but it wasn't really necessary -- well-balanced from the start. Intense black cherry flavor fades to hints of black pepper, spice, and green pepper on the long and complex finish. Savor this one so you'll have a little left for your chocolate dessert!

November 10, 2016 - A private lunch (Restaurant Joelia *, Rotterdam, NL): Compared to the standard cuvée which preceded it, this has more density, more layers and more depth, but also more elegance and floral lift; tightly wound, velvety and fresh, powdery tannins; beautifully balanced and long. Excellent.

June 25, 2016 - At first even more expressive than their “standard” Brunello, but on the palate more depth, minerality, structure - super lively and long. Serious and confident. Excellent. 92-93+
