November 15, 2022 - Merlot from Piedmont - totally atypical but worth a go. It has the air of impeccable breeding - regal, refined, slightly withdrawn.
This isn’t what you’d expect from Italian Merlot in the Bolgheri mould. You do have suggestions of a pulpy richness but the red plum fruit is a secondary player. The tannins are present with a clay-y texture, supported by clean acid, glistening and mineral. Medium bodied, it finishes dry with the bitterness of pure dark chocolate.
Interesting rather than particularly enjoyable- somewhat closed and aloof. -

November 15, 2016 - I have to tell say this is one of the best ones I've had in a long time it comes from the Piedmont area of Italy It is 100% Merlot, but unlike any Merlot that you may tried before. It has a very slight hint of raspberry and Plum and a little more obvious is ripe Cherry but what really stands out is a leathery smokey flavor soft tannins interesting wine to be sure
