April 29, 2020 - Full yellow with a golden glow. Complex aromatics-herb, citrus, ginger, and tea. Interestingly, not a lot of petrol. Medium weight, wonderful glycerine feel. As deep and complex on the palate as it is on the nose-lemon, spice, some tropical notes and then a dizzying swirl of crackling acidity and stone. Just an absolute killer bone dry Riesling in its fully developed glory.

February 15, 2020 - Deep gold. Aromas of citrus and honey with a touch of petrol. Now mouthfilling rather than linear, but still enlivened by excellent acidity. Beautiful mature Alsatian riesling.

May 27, 2019 - Full tulip yellow. Mostly herbal scents and very little petrol. Medium weight, lean. This rapidly builds toward a rush of acidity and stone. What is truly amazing is that while you cannot really characterize or explicitly taste the fruit, it provides the backdrop of flesh that keeps this from seeming too dry or austere. Fantastic, almost fully mature Trimbach Riesling that reminds me of what the 1979 Frederic Emile was like at around age 30. Bottles like this will continue to distill down into the essence of Riesling for the next decade. I have had this wine 7 times with variable experiences, but oddly, the advanced and flawed bottles all showed up early (2006 to 2011), while the more recent bottles have been pristine. Go figure.

November 18, 2018 - From 375cl. After a disappointing 1998 half earlier in the month I feared he worst on opening. Very mature colour and will plenty of fruit, length and complexity initially spoilt by a very bitter finish. Sealed and tried the following day the bitter finish had a gone and this was an enjoyable half - though not a format I favour in Alsace. In bottles or larger may well keep.

December 24, 2016 - No proper - last bottle. Very good quality, but this bottle seemed closer to its end than the last. Very good with traditional norwegian christmas food. Heavy on the petroleum, but very good considering its 20 years old.

    drink up me hearties, 90-91p

December 20, 2016 - We drank this 1996 vintage wine at a New York City Restaurant. It was close to flawed but not quite. The wine had lost the expected fruit. It was very woody but the color was fine and it had no off odors. The cork partially crumbled during opening but the part in contact with the wine seemed ok. The wine was drinkable but not at all what we expect from an Alsace wine.

October 4, 2016 - Alsace Riesling: Slightly corked magnum.
Palate was still nice and enjoyable - cncentrated, intense, even a bit edgy. Still very present accidity - unripe fruits and yellow flowers. Milky texture.
