January 2, 2023 - An unexpected treat, with notes of ripe black cherry, black raspberry, cut flowers and tree bark commingling throughout. Hints of baking spice weave in, and there's enough acidity to keep it feeling fresh. A skosh tannic as well, providing needed tension. Terrific.

April 15, 2022 - Score is high based on this tasting fantastic over three nights in a one week period (stored on nitrogen).
After experimenting with aeration and chill times, settled at a mere 15-30 minutes of air and in the fridg.
Best of the four Ancillary Pinots I recently got from Winebid (Sangiacomo 2015 & 2016, and Sun Chase 2015), which is saying something because all four were great! Yes, sorry to see this partnership end. Additionally, looks like Russell Bevan will now be making the Carter wines.
Lots of verve, plush and viscous without being syrupy. Dark cherry fruit, very pure and a touch of sweetness that rounds out the experience.
Believe this is drinking at peak today and maybe for the next year or so.
For fans of the Russian River Valley style of Pinot (as am I).

January 1, 2022 - Had this the day after having the same vintage of the Whole Cluster which was the more revered wine by the critics. I preferred this bottle ever so slightly. Had nice dark cherry note with some spices and a slight hint of orange zest on the finish. I really loved it and sad that I only purchased one from the winery a few years ago. Sad to see this program with Carter and Mike Smith come to a close. Most of the wines they produced together both pinots and the Carter Cabs truly were of magnificent quality.

May 28, 2021 - Deep dark extracted Pinot. Strawberry and earth notes and a long finish. Mike Smith continues to shine no matter what varietal he works with!
