July 18, 2020 - Always a treat to linger over a glass or two of Yquem after a delicious meal with friends. Beautiful medium yellow color, lots of apricot and tropical fruit notes. This continues to be a lighter vintage for Yquem giving it a freshness that you don’t always find in the bigger, sweeter vintages. Great balance and finish

July 13, 2020 - Tasted double blind. It screamed Yquem with some age but it was also clear that we don’t have one of the very best vintages in our glass as it didn’t had the complexity of the great years. On the plus side, the sweetness is well in check and the wine is creamy yet very fresh (and not cloying). This can age wonderfully and I guess will only improve with time (and more complexity).

TN: Medium expressive, high precision nose and palate with lots of fine saffron, spices, citrus, apricots and hints of minerality. Wonderfully sweet without being too sweet and balanced by a very good freshness. Medium+ length.

    Decanting: No decanting needed.

June 13, 2020 - Tasted blind. The signature saffron gave away the Yquem, although - while no doubt a very good Sauternes - compared to the otherworldly 2001 or 2015 this came across as less precise and less refined. Quince, burned sugar, caramel, crème brûlée, cooked apricot and lots and lots of saffron which carries on to the palate where you'll encounter fresh, almost crisp acidity providing for a vibrant structure. A great Sauternes, but a weak Yquem.

December 10, 2019 - From 750ml- 2 hour decant- very accessible at this point. Much more open then the 97- medium plus bodied with a nice lingering finish. Balance is supreme. This still requires a long decant and will last for decades.

(Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes) Above average temperatures. Storms in July. Harvest began September 24th with intermittent rain. A moderately pale lemon-gold. A simple nose; just some candied fruit. Somebody overlooked the need for botrytis in this vintage. Sweet palate, moderate concentration, but no great depth. Lacks botrytis character and the complexity that would ensue. Good finish and length though. Now it is apparent why this vintage was released at such a low price, but perhaps it will develop in bottle.
