April 9, 2024 - Giovanni Canonica tasting at HAN. Aired few hours in bottle already. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Long legs.
Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of VA, dark spices, stewed plums, dark red cherries, black cherries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (15%), chewy sticky high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, dark red cherries, stewy plums, sweet dark spices. Long chewy spicy finish. Soy sauce emerges with more air time in bottle
Time to drink up already based on this bottle showing.

March 7, 2024 - This was an absolutely wild ride. We had this decanted at the restaurant while we had white and anitpasti. At first it was clenched with lots of structure and firm, drying tannins. Macerated cherries in rosewater was there again along with dusty herbs and lightly savory leather. Then about an hour or so in, it totally popped and the structure melted into the wine and it became velvety. I've only had this happen with a few wines (one of the traits I associate with Allemand Sans Soufre), it's hard, hard, velvet! Crazy! I guess now I know what happens when you decant it. A similar experience note wise with the last bottle, but texture wise, a different beast. Again, I don't have great advice on whether to age or drink. I'll probably go at mine every 2-3 years until they're gone if you haven't had it or have multiple bottles, dive in.

January 20, 2024 - Pearl of Burgundy Gala Dinner 2024 (Four Seasons Hotel): Left over the dinner the night before. Not particularly impressive seemly lacks the rose I like from Barolo. Perhaps a little tired.

January 20, 2024 - Pearl of Burgundy gala dinner: Brought this as leftovers from previous day’s dinner. Structured and unforgiving on the first day; fierce tannins still present on the second but the wine showed a delicacy that was missing on the first day - the 15% alcohol didn’t show through at all. A better wine than the Comune di Grinzane I tried last year but needs more time.

September 27, 2022 - Really good; probably the first time I've been able to understand the Canonica fuss. Raw, herbal and slightly volatile, yet delicious with it. I think the warm vintage worked well with the winemaking here, producing a wine with sensuous appeal as well as plenty of energy. Already pretty approachable - no need to wait IMO.
