Pearl of Burgundy Gala Dinner 2024
Four Seasons Hotel
Tasted January 20, 2024 by astroman with 82 views
Introduction
A huge night to end 3 days of drinking and dinner. Lots drunk that night with more photos of bottle than I could remember drinking and taking notes. This is selection of wines with some memories of the notes.
Flight 1 (20 notes)
White - Sparkling
1997 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année
93 points
Impression. Beautiful nose, honey, love the texture and the palate.
Red
1996 Georges Lignier et Fils Bonnes Mares
90 points
From a magnum, cork fell in when opening, in fact there were noticeable leak when it was brought from Singapore to Hong Kong. Fruits mostly gone, all tertiary notes with good acid. Probably no the best condition
White - Sparkling
N.V. Ruppert-Leroy Champagne Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Martin-Fontaine
91 points
100% C, base 2019, disgorged April 2022, Brut nature. Took a while for it open up. Initially was a little funky but slowly open up to reveal an elegant rounded aroma, slight naturalist on the palate with high acid. A little awkward on the palate probably needs a little time to integrate.
White
2015 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc
From a magnum. Ripe fruits on the nose well balanced with good acid and precise palate. Would have prefer a leaner white, for the vintage it fare well.
White
2020 Thierry Pillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières
A little too ripe on the nose and the palate lacks the acidity and precision for white.
White
2008 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne
flawed
Believe this to be premox, others think this is corked. Nevertheless not good condition
White
2008 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet
95 points
Wow this is what age does to PYCM's wine. Lovely white flower with good freshness and acidity. Everything is place with super long finish
Red
2014 Domaine Duroché Latricières-Chambertin
95 points
Differing opinion here, I felt this was pure and clean with some tertiary notes compared to the 2017 ESJ. One agree with me but another felt 2017 was purer.
Red
2017 Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles-St.-Jacques
95 points
There is a little funk on the nose but palate was exceptional. Again others think otherwise alongside the 2014 Latricieres.
Red
2001 R. López de Heredia Rioja Bodega Matador Parreno
97 points
Poured by the man who awarded it 100 pt. 17 years in oak, yet some youthful with notes of minty and great freshness for a 23 years old. Seamless front to finish. Amazing Spanish wine.
Red
2016 Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin
94 points
From a magnum, beautiful powerful aromas of fruits with super purity. Still so youthful but yet drinking well at this stage.
Red
2019 Domaine Henri Gouges Hommage
From a magnum, a special bottling with the best grapes from all the plot. This had super nose with broad deep layered palate with good acidity.
Red
2013 Emmanuel Houillon (Maison Pierre Overnoy) Poulsard Arbois Pupillin
From a magnum, beautiful strawberry notes, light body with high acid. Good but acid a little piercing at the moment.
White
2014 Jean-Marc Roulot Corton-Charlemagne
From a magnum with great precision and minerality. Superb stuff
Red
2007 Marcel Juge Cornas
From a magnum, still very youthful some olive, stems, a little jam but lovely on the palate.
Red
2014 Domaine Francois Lamarche La Grande Rue
From a magnum, amazing nose with good depth and rose. Wines always seem to taste better in the presence of the winemaker.
Red
2021 Jean-Marie Fourrier Grands-Echezeaux Vieille Vigne
Slight hint of stems but lovely fruits and pure on the palate
Red
2015 Giovanni Canonica Barolo Paiagallo
Left over the dinner the night before. Not particularly impressive seemly lacks the rose I like from Barolo. Perhaps a little tired.
