December 24, 2023 - Compact and sweet cherry and dark plum fruit and a good acidity. Dark chocolate layered with vanilla and raisins.
Lots of youthfulness but the alcohol really does dominate, even when served fairly cold. As the wine increases in temperature, it does seem fairly unbalanced and the age has not improved the wine.
To be honest, I had expected a lot more from this wine so it was a slight disappointment in the way it performed.

October 5, 2017 - Ruby red, port-like nose of fruitcake, caramel, black currant and raspberry, dark and sweet on the attack with layers of ripe red and black fruits, raisin and heat, finish is long but dominated by alcohol followed by black fruit, spice, dried cherry and plum skin

March 11, 2017 - A lazy saturday afternoon (Eric&Megan's, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is deep and rich with black cherries, chocolate, licorice, black tea, raisins, and spice tones. This shows off the intensity and extract that one expects from an Amarone while still being balanced.

Taste: Full bodied with medium- acidity and medium+ tannins. The structure is balanced and fairly resolved with the tannins showing a silky side and a notable presence of alcohol that is kept in check. The feel is deep, weighty, rich, yet balanced with black cherries, chocolate, black tea, and raisins.

Overall: This was drinking beautifully and was a wonderful bottle of Amarone. It showed off class and polish that a wine of this class can bring. It can age further, but it is a real joy right now.

March 11, 2017 - Dinner at Eric's (Chicago, IL): There's no doubt this is a heady wine -- there's even a whiff of alcohol on the nose that singes the nosehairs. It's got a hefty 16.5% abv, but it holds it well. The nose shows lots and lots of dried figs, with ripe fruit all over. The palate is not too thick and extracted, and it's actually quite light for how big this wine is. There's a slight bit of sweetness, with some very nice restraint -- and in fact, a fair bit of acidity here as well.
