Community Tasting Notes 5

September 3, 2022 - Willi Schaefer in the afternoon (Tucson, AZ): Decanted for several hours then drunk in the afternoon, the last glass three days later.

A fresh, light, and floral nose of slate, more citrus than orchard fruit, subtle florals. There is a delicacy to the nose. On the palate, It's stony and soil driven on the palate but delivered with a textural softness. That said this is not soft, just the fine textural feel to a rocky wine of subtle and sneaky intensity. Lime, citrus zest, almost pithy fruit, more slate, subtle savory green herb, with some almost oyster shell notes coming but day three that for me had echoes of a warm vintage Freddy Emile. I think this handles the ripeness of the vintage well, but I do not think everything here is in complete harmony. It did gain focus over three days. It is very good, even outstanding by day three. I would love to have another bottle to try in a few years to see what happen, but sadly I bought only one. 90 points by day three

July 28, 2020 - Medium yellow. Lots of stone fruit with herbal elements. Unctuous, with bee wax, like an Alsace wine. Medium complexity. Correct, but I like my GG's quite a bit more racy than that.

April 19, 2019 - Great dry Mosel wine and drinking very well now, with flavors of grapefruit and other citrus fruits. Mineral and dense on the palate, yet it retains an incredible sense of lightness. A very long and caressing finish. Wish I had bought more!

February 3, 2018 - Lovely. Lacey and precise. Citrus peels on the nose with slight flint. Lifting acids. A little nut oil. Gorgeous core of fresh warm citrus fruit. Long finish that caresses in an unexpected (for dry Riesling) way. More perfume, a little petrol and lots of mineral dance away with amazing lightness. Beautiful wine.

May 9, 2014 - Very clean aromas, like aloe-scented bath soap. Palate is intensely sharp and bracing, as you would expect from a Mosel GG - pixelated in texture. There is enough fruit to keep it from being punishing, but I can't say it's as delicious as the predicate wines here.
