December 6, 2022 - Wine Workshop: Clos du Mesnil vertical (Atera - 77 Worth Street in NYC): I don't know much about champagne from 1980 - can hardly think of almost any bottles I've tried - so didn't know what to expect here. I thought it showed very nicely. Really tasty. It's got a bit of the mineral and now more like a stone fruit character and with that lovely soft finish that is so classic to this wine and just shows great finesse. Very nice.

March 10, 2021 - Krug Clos du Mesnil – Complete Vertical 1979-2006 tasted blind (Singapore): This was the group’s favorite in this flight. Discrete nose also here. The palate was a real hit as there was an extra layer of sweetness with aromas of raspberry, caramel, sour plum and a hint of coffee. Stunning. What a start!

December 31, 2020 - Had never had '80 Clos du Mesnil (or for that matter an '80 champagne I don't think) so wasn't sure what to expect. Good pop. Golden colored. Fully mature but not oxidized. Still effervescent with lots of acid. Got better and better with air. May have been optimal 10-15 years ago but regardless a really enjoyable 40-year old champagne. While not a noteworthy vintage, it's still Clos du Mesnil and it's still great. Purchased in the US Marshal auction of seized Rudy property so perhaps this was destined to have the '80 scratched off and replaced with '79...

September 20, 2020 - Complete Vertical tasting of Clos du Mesnil en Magnum with Olivier Krug (Berens am Kai 1 star Restaurant): Complete Clos du Mesnil Magnum tasting, all bottles opened 3 Hours before, not blind
The flight partner 1983 was corked but the 80 shows its great aging capacity. All Krug elements plus the vivid acidity. Grateful aged with toffe, coffee, waffles and chocolate notes. Nice bubbles. For a 1980 brialliant. 96
