Community Tasting Notes 8

  • Bejakeyser Does not like this wine:

August 15, 2020 - this had turned to pure vinegar, was very disappointed.

  • BillBell73 Likes this wine:

May 17, 2018 - Very high acidity and very little fruit...most of which is unripe strawberries and cranberries. Very funky and mellow nose. This is definitely very mature but still in the game and quite enjoyable with a good dry chorizo. Needs fatty food or wild mushrooms to play against the acidity.

May 2, 2017 - Wet and crumbly cork - and this bottle was even more advanced than others I've tried...tangy acid, cranberry fruit, tea leaves...still tasty but not what this wine can be with a good cork. I guess after 53 years a little bottle variation can be expected!

May 9, 2016 - Classic to the Bone (Restaurant Horcher - Madrid): Initially very closed with aromas of damp and mushrooms.
After airing shows the dry and straightforward but elegant and firm style characteristic of a truly LDH. A Rioja of distinction.
Meat, spiced on the nose with an admirable long length and high acidity on the palate. Eternal aftertaste with tension and freshness. You can't ask for anything else. Almost.

September 22, 2014 - Cork in decent shape, color still very intact with very little amber around the edges. Beef broth, blood, a little dustiness, dried cherries, mushrooms. Everything pretty well balanced, got lucky with this bottle.
