February 3, 2024 - 2018 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is perfumed and refined. The developing Pinot Noir is clear and pale ruby without any sediments. Aromas of wild strawberry, red plum, rose petals and lilac are followed by earth and a touch of spices.

On the palate, it is dry and medium-bodied, balanced by a medium levels of supple tannin and acidity. Flavours of red cherry, hawthorn and plum sauce transition to Ceylon tea and savoury grilled mushroom in a long, poised finish. The alcohol level is 13%. The empty bottle weighs 533 grams.

November 19, 2023 - Bright black cherry fruit with a touch of oak/vanilla, salty wood notes, med. tannic grip and low-med acid. 13% Alc.

This 1er blend is a perennial favorite in our house, but needs time at this stage for the oak to integrate I think. According to the Drouhin website “Since they are too small, these Premier Cru vineyards (Noirots, Hauts Doix, Borniques, Plantes, Combottes) are harvested and vinified together.”

In the name of science, we tasted this blind against the Drouhin’s 18’ Amoureuses, which was like a race between my trusty old Prius, and a Porsche. The 1er blend was good, but the Amoureuses just had another gear, even at this young stage.

November 16, 2023 - Definitely too young to open but drank it over two days.

On the nose: roses, violets, a mixed bag of dark cherries and ripe raspberries come through with a hint of wet soil

On the palate: the earthiness definitely comes through with a lot of structure and velvetiness. The fruits are on the darker spectrum with blackberries, black cherries.

October 20, 2023 - Beautifully smooth, lovely strawberries and cherries with nice minerality. Very elegant mouthfeel and long finish. Really nice bottle.
