July 3, 2022 - 2018 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge Les Moulins

💭 My first Loire Valley red featuring Cabernet Franc from Saumur. It’s also known as Breton locally.

Cabernet Franc wines here generally produces a lighter bodied, very little tannins and generally ready to drink after bottling as compared to the ones found in Bordeaux.

Due to the vineyard located closer to the North and therefore resides within a cooler climate it produces fresh, youthful and more fruit forward reds.

However, it’s ability to age over many years and developing more complex notes should not be underestimated. It therefore is very suitable for cellaring.

    👀 Medium ruby
👃Uncorked, double decanted, re-corked immediately and left overnight in the chiller. Fresh, youthful and fruit forward. It opens up to delicate black fruits like blackberry and plum, red fruits like raspberries and cherries , earthiness like forest floor and very subtle hints of bell peppers . Swirling and introducing some air reveals more woody notes and vanilla at mid palate. Finishing with more black fruits.
👅 Medium plus bodied and acidity, with medium intensity. Smooth tannins. Elegant and can enjoy now with some aeration .

Cheers, Yum Seng, 干杯, 乾杯, 건배 , Prost, Santé, Salute, Salud, Saúde, გაუმარჯოს (Gaomarjos) ! 🍷

May 8, 2022 - Black cherry with green pepper, black pepper. Medium+ weight, good length, and better balance. Some barnyard to start, but not enough to obstruct the wine's overall enjoyment. Charming wine and a great value.

March 5, 2021 - Green pepper notes typical of cab franc present but much more of red fruit, earth, smoke and anise. When first decanted it was very funky, after an hour it mellowed out and was much more elegant. Long finish.

    Big fan of Guiberteau.

October 30, 2020 - Friday at the strand (Strand Cellars, Croydon): Slightly gamey, a little peppery meatiness, a touch of pretty red fruit and a smidge of fartiness on the nose. A little struck match quality as well. The palate is less impressive than the nose, the fruit drops quite quickly, the tannins pull at the tongue and is chalky textured. Hmm.
