Introduction

Off to the strand for the friday night tasting...

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
2018 Domaine Weinbach Pinot Blanc France, Alsace
Smells fresh, waxy, stone fruit - a little peach and the implications of a little richness. in the mouth it's juicy, fleshy, lovely and rich, served quite cool which hides the alcohol (which is quite prominent as it warms in the glass) and there is a little texture on the mid palate. Hmm for the alcohol and lack of fruit on the palate...
White
2016 François Chidaine Le Chenin d'Ailleurs France, Loire Valley, Vin de France
Quite lanolin, wax polish, a little herbal underpin and lemon peel and pith. In the mouth it has medium plus intensity acidity, the citrus goes hand in hand with that herbal underpin. Fairly short with a little chalky texture on the mid palate. Meh.
Rosé
2019 Château Routas Côteaux Varois Rosé France, Provence, Côteaux Varois
Strawberry, red berries in general, a little spice that proves quite savoury on the nose. Juicy, fleshy, a little peppery prickle, touches of candy floss and red berries but still very savoury, though not bitter, a little alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm.
Red
2017 Château Les Palais Corbières 6 Petits Gars France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Corbières
Gamey, funky aromas over slightly baked red berry fruit which, with time, starts to show a little jubiness. Juicy acidity, drying talc textured tannins, red berry fruits and a touch of that savoury, gamey quality here as well. Okay.
Red
2018 Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Pretty jubey red cherry, peppery spice underpin and a tiny touch of stalkiness that is present but not intrusive on the nose. Juicy, savoury cherry, spice, fine chalk textured, slightly drying tannins, long with a little non-intrusive alcohol warmth, yum
Red
2018 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Rouge Les Moulins France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur
Slightly gamey, a little peppery meatiness, a touch of pretty red fruit and a smidge of fartiness on the nose. A little struck match quality as well. The palate is less impressive than the nose, the fruit drops quite quickly, the tannins pull at the tongue and is chalky textured. Hmm.

Closing

bit of a French night which proved quite interesting...
