November 12, 2012 - Dinner at Sun Wah (Sun Wah BBQ - Chicago, IL): While this showed well, it had an odd, subtle rubbery note on the finish. Its mid-palate was fine and mature with great dark fruit, earth notes and blood. For me, this was the weakest Thunder Mountain of the night.

May 12, 2012 - Chicago Disorderly Afternoon (Phil's House): I adore the wines of Thunder Mountain and this was my first try of the Star Ruby Bates Ranch blend. I don't know what the blend consists of, but there seemed to be some cabernet franc influence going on. I think Phil pointed out how he was picking up some green pepper notes which I thought was spot on. The palate was juicy with red, brambly fruit...more green notes...maybe dill? A really fun wine that I thought was drinking nicely.

July 5, 2005 - Paso or Anything at Campisi's: Blind 3 - red - Ruby, translucent appearance. Interesting nose that smelled variously of dyll, pepper, mint, and slight greeness. The serving temperature on this wine was a little too warm which may have affected the palate. Seems a bit syrupy. Okay. A Merlot and Cabernet blend.
