November 19, 2022 - Unfortunately the very warm and ripe 2003 vintage really shows in this wine.
I am an absolutely major riesling lover, but the acidity needs to be there to keep the sweetness in check - otherwise it gets a bit too cloying for me. That's also why I tend to prefer Kabinett and Spätlese, but this just doesn't feel like a Spätlese to me...

It's elegant and quite lovely on the nose with honeysuckle, tropical fruits, citrus fruits, petroleum, beeswax, honey and ripe peach.

The palate shows a lot of the same notes and the texture is quite thick and creamy, but it's really lacking that big hit of acidity from the citrus fruits, and the tropical fruits are feeling too ripe and lacking freshness. It's there to keep the sweetness from going completely cloying but it's a very fine line before going overboard for my taste.

I must say that getting this for about €30 released from the domaine here in 2022 is still nice QPR, but I think there's still other rieslings I'd spent my money on then...

    Honey, gentle petrol, honeysuckle flowers.
Gentle, honeyed palate. Smooth and creamy with just enough acidity to keep it in check.

March 22, 2022 - Tasted at the winery.

From the notoriously hot 2003 vintage.
Actually it's quite surprising to see a 2003 wine in this good shape, typically they aren't I guess due to lack of acidity in that year.

Bit of date is evident, but it doesn't feel old or dried out in any way.

Intensive scent, and - at last - a lot of elegance in there.

Costs 30 EUR, translating to 'almost OK' QPR, which is enough to be one of the strongest in terms of QPR with Molitor.
