May 1, 2018 - The second bottle I’ve opened and this one was extremely advanced. Heavy prune on the nose, dried fruit and leather on the palate and lingering celery on the finish. Good acidity helped to make this somewhat drinkable, but it wasn’t enjoyable. Poured blind for some knowledgeable folks who thought it might be a late 70s or 1980s Bordeaux blend.

March 1, 2016 - Cork barely stained. Medium dark, lively ruby. Cantina aromas. Clearly Barbera, but a fairly sophisticated one. This bottle not quite as rich as some of the 10-year Barberas we've been enjoying, but still good fruit, integrated tannins, and laser-like acidity.

    February 26, 2016 - 2004 Vietti Barbera La Crena vs 2009 Barbera Scarrone V.V.:
    - Farbe: Beide Weine sehr konzentriert

February 16, 2016 - How in the world DO they do it? Another fully satisfying bottle. Rich, sumptuous, and edgy in a Barbera way. And still some time to go before any noticeable decline.

  • Italiana Likes this wine:

December 22, 2015 - Cork as if bottled yesterday. Deep and dark ruby. Initial aromas of grilled meat and violets. Rich and supple with some initial heady dark berry fruit. Signature Barbera acidity kicked in to dominate at the end, maybe two hours into the bottle.

(Vietti Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza La Crena) Dark red violet color with cherry red meniscus; Bordeaux-like tart plum and black fruit nose with a touch of cedar; focused, tart plum, black fruit and graphite palate with big, tart tannins and good acidity; medium-plus finish
