April 18, 2023 - Dinner at La Boheme with the Crew (Palo Alto): Had attractive but delicate aromatics, mostly of red fruit, after the bottle warmed up. The palate had good density and texture but was lacking either the charm or the pow of better aged N. Rhônes I’ve had. Still I enjoyed this a ton with cassoulet as the earthy flavors of the food with mixed with the wine. So wonderful to get to try these older rare wines.

April 18, 2023 - Dinner with the wine group (La Bohème, Palo Alto): Medium aromatics, red fruit, some spice, some vanilla; palate is medium bodied, a bit polished, slight oak/vanilla, fresh acidity; finish is medium length, clean, balanced. 90

July 8, 2022 - What a nice old Hermitage. Plenty of vigor here, the color was strong and barely bricking. The nose was outstanding with savory aged fruit, earth, truffles, really lifted and aromatic, beguiling. It took about 30-60 minutes to open on the palate, starting thinly with tart/dried out fruit but fanning out and revealing brewed raspberryish fruit, lovely rounded sides, and gentle savoriness powered along by strong acidity. This paired amazingly well with a steak and I also enjoyed it on its own. Just a pleasure to drink - this would not be a showstopper at a larger tasting but it was beautiful nonetheless.

November 11, 2021 - Beautiful and complex nose of dark fruit, chocolate, and red berries. Lots of acidity on the palate with tart cherries, red fruit, and less savoriness than the nose. Nice finish. A pleasure to drink and fully mature right now, but will probably hold up for quite a while longer.

July 3, 2021 - Library release from Bernard Faurie. Beautiful deep ruby colour, with surprisingly little bricking/browning.
Nose is initially a little bit 'rustic' with some brown and mature notes, but that blows off after a few minutes, and the wine evolves into an aromatically complex and intriguing wine with notes of leather, forest floor, a lot of black pepper and some very discreet animal notes.
The palate is silky smooth, with a nice fresh acidity and delicate red fruit and forest floor notes. I was very surprised by the quality of this wine given the so-so vintage.
