Community Tasting Notes 7

October 24, 2023 - gift on day two; rich, and slightly sweet with some baby fat; ripe fruit that hides the acidity and high alcohol; plenty of complexity here with tobacco and meaty notes and je ne sais quoi

May 21, 2023 - I didn’t have enough dedication to wait 5 years and uncorked my second bottle after about 8 months.
While the score remains the same the wine is much more accessible now, delivering macerated black cherries, cherry liqueur, milk chocolate and caramel.
It is a bit shutdown on the palate and alcohol is a bit more pronounced, but the wine already delivers big time for its relatively low price.
So, yes, wait 5 years, but if you have enough bottles, it will certainly be fun to open at least one a year, to watch and enjoy it’s development.

March 31, 2023 - Ordered spontaneously at Le Pinardier wine bar (Paris) and had the waiter decant it for 30 minutes before serving.

Off the bat - Dark ruby core and an enticing nose of cherries, dried herbs, garrigue and leather. Another 45 minutes in the glass unlocked more distinct notes of sage and forest floor. Quite a bit of complexity for it's age, and well strung together.

On the palate - medium structure, very round and refined. Tannins are present but already surprisingly silky and integrated. Good length and depth, revealing layers of mostly dark fruit and game.

Overall a very good effort by the "other brother" of house Usseglio, and definately approachable at this early stage. Will probably slip into hibernation within a couple of years, so drink now through 2024, or hold till 2029 and revisit in maturity.

90 points in its infancy, likely higher once it reaches adulthood. Still, very good now.

September 17, 2022 - Medium ruby, with purplish hues, the wine screams youthfulness and by the time you make the first sip it becomes evident drinking it at this stage is an infanticide.
Full bodied, tightly coiled, with a massive tannic backbone the wine delivers huge concentration of flavors of dark red and black fruits, milk chocolate and propolis. I better wait at least 5 years before uncorking another bottle.

May 1, 2022 - Vinetasters: 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. A hint of reduction and maybe a little bit of pyrazine, followed by oak, and a dose of purple fruit invoking Welch's. Sweet, low acid, and purply. My 10th, group's 12th.
