89 pts

May 4, 2023 - Half an hour after popping the cork the clearly reductive nose is starting to open up. There is quite a bit of perfume to it along with ripe, dark cherry fruit, a distinct minerally note and a hint of mint. Rather beautiful. On the palate the entry is quite calm and collected - though right away firm - but midway through it really starts to tighten up, gripping considerably towards the mouth-puckering finish. While not lacking any fruit akin to that on the nose this is markedly minerally and spicy, damn straight reminiscent of something from Mauves’s direction. Stylistically this is very serious and structure-driven with nothing really indicating that it is a humble entry level Burgundy. Tightly coiled at this point to the extent that it showcases its obvious quality but doesn’t offer a whole lot of pleasure, if then the ripe, juicy 2019 fruit makes it more palatable than would be the case in a more classic vintage. An iron fist in a ripe and juicy iron glove, if you will.

89 pts

March 22, 2022 - Joyaux en Côte de Nuits (Marsannay/Gevrey-Chambertin) - Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne (Tonnellerie Rousseau - Gevrey-Chambertin): Walk around tasting. Big, fun fruit but tannic today for its weight.
