April 6, 2024 - April 2024 Rhone Valley Tasting (K&L): This is a big boy. Aromatically complex, with red fruit and smoke on the palate, and subtle hints of stem, spice and herbs. Texturally, there are super silky tannins (bordering on velvety), caressing the mouth from start to finish. The one nit to pick here is that it could use more acidity, but it is still balanced and refreshing. But, good lord, is it ripe (though not in a flabby, gloopy way). Maybe not hedonistically ripe for civilians, but perhaps a touch too hedonistically ripe for the AFWE. Not damning with faint praise (I like this wine quite a bit), but just noting that you can tell this is from a solar vintage.

April 6, 2024 - Havent had a young bottle of Jamet that showed well before this one. Had this at a K and L tasting, and this was by far the wott. Acid-driven ripe fruit. Green olives, bacon fat. Concentrated on the palate but still lithe. Very persistent. Likely at an early window as I would expect this to shut down based off my prior experiences. Beauscastel ‘21 was the only other wine I enjoyed at the tasting, but this in another league for me.

February 22, 2024 - Great acidity and fruit on entry. Cherries, olives, minerals. Fine tannins. Great mid-palate, but saline and quiet on the finish. This will deserve a higher score if/when it expands. I like that this could be called approachable in the context of Northern Rhone.

January 20, 2024 - Pearl of Burgundy Gala Dinner 2024 (Four Seasons Hotel): Good pure fruits with some olive and meat notes.

October 1, 2023 - Deep dark red in the glass, not quite opaque, hmm, bit of an odd, underripe vegetal note on the nose, no obvious fruit notes, no interesting spice notes; palate starts medium rich, doesn't show particularly sweet, but doesn't really show a lot of depth or complexity, shows a touch of tartness, some astringency, and the finish dies off quickly. tannins are there, a bit chalky on the finish. Not a particularly interesting, deep, or flavorful wine. Who knows, maybe this will become something as it ages, but I'm not paying to find out.

Tasting this again a bit later (though the wine has seen plenty of air, so that’s not an issue). There’s a bit more depth of fruit, bit it’s still fairly astringent, and unusually earthy, rough, and backward for a young Jamet.
