March 29, 2024 - Spring Break in Napa -- Who Needs Cancun?; 3/22/2024-4/27/2024 (Oakville, St. Helena, Calistoga): Opened the previous day. Their Howell Mountain offering.

Had a classic mountain profile. lots of black fruit, graphite, intensity. Very interesting, with a lot of complexity and depth.

Might need some time to open up, seemed a little off balance as we had it. 93-95

September 7, 2023 - Napa day trip (Promontory, Dakota Shy, Detert) (Napa): The nose showed dark yet soft red fruits, and damp wood with mossy growth, as if they were on an old pirate ship like on Pirates of the Caribbean.

On the palate is a bigger and darker intensity of black core graphite, pulverized black bitter minerals, dark blue fruits, and dried large slabs of bare oak (no tree bark). Even with this strong and savory mineral core, dark yet soft fruit envelops this core, making sure it doesn’t get out of hand.

This blend consists of 20% valley floor fruit and the remainder 80% is Howell mountain fruit. Tasty with some air time now, but this is trying to show off that it can stand the test of time. Will develop better with some age. 95+

September 7, 2023 - A bit austere and brooding at this point. Huge amounts of structure and a core of good, black fruit. This is a wine to lay down and forget about for a long time and at that point, will reward heavily. Pull the Dakota Shy Napa bottling for the next 3-5 years and then you can consider this 18 barrel limited production gem. I would probably recommend this over producers like Lokoya, so at its price point, is worth it. But again, needs time in bottle to settle.
