June 19, 2019 - From 375. Copper color; high intensity tertiary nose with caramel, tea, very savory; palate is transitioning to Hudak stage 4, lovely as its sweetness drops out, complex savoryiness, earl grey tea, great acidity, moderate alcohol well balanced; medium length finish. Really lovely sauternes at a good stage of maturity. 91

January 24, 2019 - From 375mL. Burnished orange; medium-plus intensity, dried orange peel, butterscotch, caramel, walnuts, doesn't actually smell sweet, more savory, clean and precise aromas; palate is medium bodied, integrated slight sweetness, medium-plus acidity, not much fruit, just a hint of dried orange; medium unremarkable finish. This is fully aged Hudak stage 4 (surprising for 1988 which is normally stage 3), and a wonderful pairing with savory foods like roast chicken. Lovely, especially the nose, and rare to find such balanced development in a sauternes so young. 90-92

November 16, 2017 - Vintage Bordeaux out of OWC tasting (Wine Watch, Fort Lauderdale, Florida): Not much to write home about on the palate, but had a lovely nose full of butterscotch, apricot, honey, and fresh white flowers. Surprisingly for a wine of this age, I longed for more acidity. But with a nose like this, it was easy to forget any limitations on the palate. Sweet finish that lingered with butterscotch.

July 11, 2017 - Drank at the end of a 5 hour dinner and after many old dusty reds. Yet still took everyone's breath away. The first whiff was like your eyes adjusting to a dark room filled with treasures, so much to think about and enjoy. Old crystallized honey, meaty broth, dried fruits, walnut.

Palate followed suit - if just slightly less wowing. Sweetness has resolved into a more savory story of its 30 year journey. Cheesecake, tart (the dish), walnuts, dried apricot. Good length. Probably peaking now, could wait a few more years.

July 23, 2016 - 375ml. This wine is in a very good spot. It's aged well and lost the cloying level of sweetness typical of younger Sauternes. Still sweet though, the apricot and honeysuckle notes come through on the palate. I wish I had a few more of these!
