Community Tasting Notes 13

June 27, 2015 - Like the '90, this doesn't seem that sweet, just dense. Feels like it might be a touch corked, and is not very exciting.

January 25, 2014 - Ripe fruit, honey and some developed savoury/creamy elements with decent acidity, but not showing the complexity and depth that I would expect from this site and vintage. Pleasant, but not exciting.

January 17, 2013 - TTTG (very brief notes) (Vernon, CT): I thought much less of this than others. Well-made with high green-apple acidity; fairly low sugar for an Auslese. Nice roundness, but overall not very exciting.

January 17, 2013 - Blind Wines @ Salil's (Vernon, CT): Something about Riesling with a bit of age to them brings a smile to my face, and this wine delivered the goods. The sweetness has resolved itself a bit, and I would be hard pressed to call this an Auslese. A whirlwind of flavors on the palate: peach, ginger, tropical fruits, citrus, slate... still very youthful. Racy, focused, chiseled and long. Gorgeous.

January 17, 2013 - CT blind group tasting at my place (Vernon, CT): Opened this as I was looking for a rich Auslese for the end of the meal, and I recall this having plenty of sweetness a couple of years ago. This seems to have really changed (for the better) since I last had it; the fruit isn't as ripe and sweet, and there's much more complexity apparent with maturing smoky, creamy and honeycomb notes, and powerful acidity beneath that keeps it really vibrant and focused.
