February 10, 2024 - The best bottle of this wine I’ve had in years. Still as amazing and fresh as ever.

December 23, 2023 - Earthy and pretty but much more stern than what I tasted several years ago. Almost shut down which would be unusual for a 2002 right now.

January 13, 2023 - Bourgogne 2002 horisontal Grand and 1. cru winetasting dinner (20 btls) (Nordsjaelland): A little rustic but not too much. At a tertiary stage. However the farmyard aromas fade nicely in the glass. Also aromas of cherry and red currant. High acidity and long finish on the palate.

November 3, 2022 - Good to revisit this after 5 years. The nose is pungent and deep with dark cherries, spicebox, and herbs. Palate is extracted and masculine with finesse and intensity. It is so classic and complex. The early peak is still 3-5 years from now. The best sip is the last one. It will certainly add 1-1.5 points from here in a few more years.

January 29, 2022 - Good wine that veered into ripe, dark cherry, ever so slightly stewed notes that just aren’t my thing.

December 8, 2021 - Alongside 2002 Engel Echezeaux and this was comparatively darker, more concentrated, and oak was less integrated. Rouget is among my favourite burgundy producers but I think there is a stylistic shift around '99 and these younger wines are a little darker and heavier. That said, the hallmark cleanliness and purity still shines through here. Darker cherry fruit, nice spice, powerful. 93 - 94.

March 31, 2021 - Insanely good from the get go. Intensely spice-filled black cherry aromas are irresistible. Pure black cherry fruit with a medley of pronounced spice, herb and floral notes. So much depth in a perfectly harmonious package. At peak.

March 31, 2021 - Echezeaux Dinner (State Street Manor - Chicago IL): In Echezeaux flight. So easy to adore to start, this keeps getting better and more complete each time I tasted it. Ripe and powerful with some rough edges when first served, all that awkwardness was gone an hour later. So brilliant now, this might even be be better in five more years.

March 11, 2021 - Densely fruited with raspberry and dark cherry. A little spicy oak is noticeable, and while not really problematic, I feel like if it was dialed back just a bit the really beautiful pure fruit would shine even more. Regardless this was impressive and enjoyable.

December 24, 2020 - Stunning bottle of wine that rendered everything in its wake mostly unlovable...and we’re talking some excellent Barbaresco and Gevrey that I’m now sorry I opened. The nose is that prototypical strawberry and roses aroma I find in Rouget, which for me is intoxicating. The red berry flavors had everyone around the table buzzing....a mouth coating midpalate with great complexity, balance, and richness. Light on its feet and a long finish
