Bourgogne 2002 horisontal Grand and 1. cru winetasting dinner (20 btls)

Nordsjaelland

Tasted January 13, 2023 by Kim Gerner with 65 views

Introduction

Semi blind tasting of 18 Bourgogne grand cru and 1. cru bottle from 2002, one from 1952. Warming up: Two great champagnes and two Batard-Montrachets.

Unexpected and impressive that so many of the bottles are still full of fruit and undoubtedly have potential for further ageing.

A very good evening.

Disgorged 2000. Gold - and a little worrying - almost amber color. High intensity, nutty, toffee, orange(!), coffee. A hint of damp cellar but not at all enough to destroy the outstanding experience. Even for champagne very high acidity.

Gold. color. on the nose/palate: More dried fruit. still apricot, lemon and toast. Less intensity and more edgy than 2006. Like 2006 also a little bitterness on the palate. Long finish

This is an outstanding wine. Almost unbelievable fruity/fresh cherry and red currant (I would not believe it is 21 years old). Extremely soft and delicious on the palate. High acidity, medium tannins and long finish. Can drink now but without doubt also develop further in the cellar. The best 2002 of the evening.

A little rustic but not too much. At a tertiary stage. However the farmyard aromas fade nicely in the glass. Also aromas of cherry and red currant. High acidity and long finish on the palate.

Much too old for me but not oxidised. Only tertiary notes left, almost only farmyard, also a little tobacco and leather in the background and even less dried fruit. On the other hand, impressive it hasn't turned into vinegar. High acidity and medium- tannins.
