Community Tasting Notes 5

November 16, 2014 - This bottle was really singing today; The fruit was still so fresh and lively and the palate had all the savory characteristics I love in aged N. Rhone, with olive, meat and pepper notes leading to a lengthy finish; In a great place right now

November 15, 2014 - Saturday Fun at Domaine (Chicago, IL): Fantastic bright colour for such an old wine. Tons of life with fruit and some of those savory aged syrah elements. Very old school and restrained, but somehow still rich and plush. This can definitely be held for the long haul, but if you enjoy your syrah with a bit of fruit, why wait?

December 13, 2013 - Domaine Wine Storage Holiday Party (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): Loved the rustic, dark nose of this. So much olive tapanade, bacon, and earthy notes on the nose. The palate was equally as exciting and exotic with a soft lavender note floating above the darkness of meat, spice, and earth. 100% dark/drity/wonderful Cote Rotie.

December 12, 2013 - Domaine End of Year Party (Chicago, IL): Notes of olives and smoked meat on the nose (as it should be). Classic Northern Rhone. The palate has a lot of funky animal character, and despite the lack of fruit, this comes off as quite juicy.

April 13, 2008 - At SF Joe's. My last bottle. Some people question whether the nose shows a drop of TCA, but most people say that it's just musty. I'm not in the TCA camp because the palate shows ripe, fuzzy, plummy blue and black fruit and that Cote Rotie herbal aura. Good but far from great. (Other three bottles: With cellarid 4/07 Applewood Park Slope; with vinotas; KL's rooftop 9/07)
