January 7, 2023 - Nose has leather, vanilla, floral notes, meat stock, mushrooms, figs and ripe fruit. Palate is full and concentrated with lots of fruit, raisins and still some deliciously integrated tannins. Fantastic wine to drink today.

February 14, 2022 - Very spongy cork, which crumbled alarmingly on pulling. Decanting was essential to avoid small cork particles, and also to leave behind the copious quantities of sediment, both coarse and fine. Happily, the wine was in perfect condition. Amazingly fresh and fruity, with only a touch of briar somewhere in the mix. A joy to drink, with tender roast lamb. I'd never have guessed its age. 13%, cork.

May 3, 2021 - Milton's Birthday (Chao Shan): A classic mature Chambolle - this was very enjoyable. The nose was very attractive, with an under layer of brush and spice and dried earth, maybe just a layer of funk - very Ghislaine Barthod there - and then more Chambolle notes of flowers and dark cherries giving a prettier lilt. The palate was very fresh, very 1993, with a liveliness and purity belying its age - here, we had juicy red cherries and berries touched with bits of earth, a little litter of rose petals, and a little sprinkle of spice, all leading into a surprisingly minerality finish. Not the most polished or refined Chambolle, but really charming, enjoyable stuff - and drinking very well now. A lovely drop.

June 23, 2018 - Cool blue fruited nose. Some pleasant red ripeness as it opens up. Faint earth in the very nice Chambolle perfume. Palate is still quite primary. Punchy blackberry. Ordered the Les Cras which was unavailable.

April 25, 2018 - A earthy and powerful chambolle with pu’er tea, earth, dark fruit, tangerine peel and iron. The wine is nicely integrated. It might lack some finesse but Barthod’s style is about size and rusticity.
