December 31, 2022 - Dark ruby in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of mature, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of cigar box notes tobacco & cedar, earthy/dusty, some floral notes, leather, anise, mint, spices & a slight hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums, spices, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present but at 33 years of age it appears to be close to if not at its peak of development, so best enjoyed soon. Fill was at lower portion of neck; cork was stained on lower fourth but otherwise intact upon opening. A lovely wine!

January 2, 2021 - PnP for NYE. Perfect cork, great crimson color, slightly boozy on the nose which quickly blew off to a reductive cherry/strawberry and fennel nose. Great mouthfeel. Became more vegetative over time but not in a bad way. Good structure. Nicely surprised for a 12.8% wine.

April 11, 2020 - No problems with the cork or the wine. Decanted for 1 1/2 hours and the wine had a very nice bouquet, plenty of berry fruits and a delightful finish. Despite the age of the wine, it had a light to medium body. Thoroughly enjoyed the wine with my wife.

September 1, 2015 - WTDS at The Kenwood With Some Older Gems (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): Very dark red color with no appreciable bricking. Decanted for about 2-2.5 hrs. Drank 1 glass over 1.5hrs. This had to be the shock of the night. I expected this to be a throw away wine, and it was anything but. Really in nice shape, this showed that California Merlot can age, and age well. Youthful, oak, blueberry, dank earth, blue and black fruits. The palate is now open and singing sweetly, blue fruit oth great structure, not even a hint of age here. Wow, what a nice treat and in a perfect spot. 92+ to 93pts.
