November 17, 2023 - PNP into Riedel Performance Pinot Noir glass (“Fruit” day): Pale garnet to the eyes.
Again, chicken broth like nuances with Hawthorn and wild berries.
Superbly textured and concentrated fruits. Herbal spices.
94 points easy but this needs more time to open up.
1 hour in: more integration and sous bois, meaty nuances that adds to the complexity. 94-95 points.
April 25, 2021 - Really handles the '08 vintage well as there's enough density here to fill out the lean, acid-driven nature of the vintage to go along with aromatics that have really nice lift and complexity. A beautiful village Chambolle.
March 31, 2021 - Pompette Salon 酌樂 Series VI (Pompette Salon, Taichung): Love it! Like the breeze in the spring. Dried herb, roses and cherry all balanced nicely in a very pure way. Totally opposite to the 2015 or 1999 tasted alongside. Very 2008 I guess. Classic.
October 16, 2020 - A pure ruby red color, with some dampening from age, but great clarity. Nose is lovely and soars from the glass. Still fruit forward, with red fruits (raspberry, red currant) and dark cherry notes. Also carries some floral and mineral notes and a touch of spice. Really great. On the palate, the thing that stands out to me is the texture (silk) and integration of the structure of this wine, which sets it apart. It’s incredibly precise with fine and supple tannins and drinks well above the village level. The fruit has faded a bit and the acidity is a touch high (consistent with the vintage), but it’s delicious and great with food (I paired with a hamburger). A quite spicy and mineral driven finish that has tremendous length. This is in a nice spot and probably a bit further along as I tasted from a half bottle. I wouldn’t hesitate to open.
January 12, 2020 - WTDS at Meritage (Meritage, St. Paul): Medium ruby red color. This had gotten some air and a quick decant; same bottle as Chablis28. Lovely nose, earthy with pretty red berries, bright raspberry, floral with rose hips. The palate is medium bodied, red fruits, polished with lovely texture and fine spices.
Man these are a joy to drink 92+pts.
January 12, 2020 - My 2nd of 4 btls. I opened this a couple hours before leaving for Meritage and decanted. Wish I hadn't decanted as it seemed to lose some of its finesse & depth rather than gain from the adl air. Upon opening it was likely a 94pt wine but came back to the pack later in the evening to say a 92pt experience. Out of the gates, at home, it had amazing finesse, silk, elegance, purity and promising depth. At Meritage it was still extremely classy & pure but seemed to lose some of it range. It still offered up intriguing; red raspberry, cherry, forest floor and earth tones on a very pretty Chambolle frame. Hard to communicate the evolution but I won't decant the next btl! I'll try to hold off opening the 3rd btl until 2023 for its 15th. Dam, this was exciting and drinking more like Grand Cru on fist sips. PnP and see what you think.
September 1, 2019 - Oh heavens yes, this is in a lovely place, with red fruit, soaring florals, earthy undertones and a long, long finish. It’s haunting and fascinating, gentle yet persistent. I consider myself lucky to have bought this on release, when pricing almost matched value. It’s a wonderful wine, with years to go, but yowza, current pricing is scary.
September 1, 2019 - Beautiful soaring yet ethereal complex nose. Palate almost as good. Red berries, earth and perfumed palate. Drinking very nicely.
88 pts
June 10, 2018 - Love this wine. It’s really fun to drink— my wife called it an easy drinker which is great but I wish it was more complex for the price.
