August 13, 2023 - Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center with oranging rims. The medium intensity nose offered up black cherries, minerals, cola, and some roasted meat.

In the mouth, this wine still seemed a bit reserved but still showed great balance, light rounded tannin, and excellent length.

I expect this will improve by a point or so with an additional 5 years in the cellar and will certainly be providing pleasure long after that.

November 26, 2022 - A stunningly youthful bottle. More in the way of black olive and brine than bacon fat and smoke. Supremely clean and pretty example. Gorgeous floral detail above rich black fruit. 94 - 95.

March 5, 2022 - Stunningly delicious bottle of Côte Rotie, affirming the aging potential of Syrah from a top year in the hands of a wine artist. The wine did not fade over 4 hours but I think it’s time to move ahead and enjoy this wine while it’s still at peak.

May 12, 2019 - Still a pretty good wine. See my notes of 6-2-17. Has faded just slightly from the last tasting, but still memorable.

April 1, 2019 - Still surprisingly primary. Tasty, but a lot more time needed for this really show its stuffing. 95+

January 22, 2019 - 1982-1991 Cote-Rotie and Hermitage (Chave, Gentaz, Jaboulet, Jamet, Jasmin, Ogier) (Berkeley): Group's #4; my #7; 1 first; 3 second; 4 third; 2 last. Aromatic nose with hints of red fruits, meat, and alcohol. Flavors of cherries and deep red fruits, with some alcohol showing through. Medium-bodied, with good fruit concentration, good acidity, mild tannins, and a medium finish.

June 10, 2018 - Pulling a Kevin Shin - a full day of fine wines over leisurely meals; 6/8/2018-6/11/2018 (Southern California): the $2000 bottle ;). Strikingly youthful in its firm structure and tannin. Long grain tannin finish. Still shy but incredibly dense dark black fruit and olive with significant weight. The nose is classic expressive Jamet, a touch of green/bacon fat/olive. Gonna be a long ager.

January 3, 2018 - Great showing. The nose was particularly youthful tonight with bright red fruit on it, but still highly showy with bacon, acrylics, spent coffee grounds, and scorched earth terroir. Very Jamet. The palate was lush with great fruit and a classic smokiness throughout. Beautiful drinking, and this bottle suggests upside over many more years.

November 17, 2017 - Rare Cote-Rotie Dinner ('91, '88, '83) (Blue Hill (NYC)): The nose here is is both classic and spectacular. Florals, acrylics, and smoked meat. Highly expressive but with bold red fruit too. The palate is excellent as well with nicely integrated tannin, still well structured and endowed with fruit, but rich earth-laden fruit. Fantastic. Really love this.
